KAREY (THE DESIGNER)
Growing up I was always the little girl with the sketch book. I loved to draw, to paint, to do anything creative. When I was nineteen I moved to Victoria to realize my dreams. Over the next ten years I went to school and worked in various design and advertising agencies in Vancouver. I loved my work, but I always had that nagging entrepreneurial spirit, that voice that told me I should start a business of my own.
In 2002 I met a wonderful man that encouraged and supported my desire to start my own business. We had a baby together in 2004 and realized what a lack in the marketplace there was for fashion forward kids clothes that werent cutesy.
I had an idea. I wanted to design a line of t-shirts that would have something positive to say, to be inspirational, hip and edgy at the same time. Out came the sketchbook once again.
The ideas turned into reality when I showed them to my friend, Kelly. With her business and my design background we had the perfect combination to really do this. Needless to say, a year and about a million brainstorming sessions later and we have gotten to the point when were ready to launch our line of t-shirts and bottles.
Its always been important to me to be positive in life because I truly believe that what you give to the world will come back to you. In giving to childrens charities around the world I am trying to teach my son what it means to be tolerant, that when you give to someone who really needs it you help them, but you also help yourself because the good things in life always come back in some way.
KELLY (THE BUSINESS BRAIN)
When I was a little girl I loved watching Fashion File on TV and made scrapbooks of magazine cutouts. I thought that for sure I would become a fashion designer when I grew up.
Well I grew up but I didnt become that designer I dreamed of. I traveled through Europe and Australia, I went to college, I worked in the Caribbean and I lived in various cities throughout the United States. I met wonderful, interesting and colorful people along the way before finally settling back in Canada to start a family. On June 16, 2004 we were fortunate enough to have a beautiful baby boy come into our lives. The desire was already brewing to create something and follow a path that I was passionate about.
On March 28, 2004 I lost my brother and from that moment on everything changed. I realized what the important things in life were, what I wanted to focus my energy on, the kind of person that I wanted to be, and the impact that I wanted to have on the people around me. My new approach was to stop thinking about doing it but to go for it, dive right in, make things happen and have no regrets. Live life, love life.
With a background in business, office management and accounting and an undying love of fashion, partnering with one of my best friends who shared the same vision was the perfect move and a surefire way I would get chance to tap into my creative side. I love and have always been fascinated by children, the way they explore, the determination they tackle each day with. With their true appreciation of the world around them, children dont judge, they love and need to be loved.
